Planning and thinking

There is not much happening. My Brother is on vacation, getting some oil and service treatment. Do you take your machine for yearly check up as well?

I went pick up background fabric for my Mini Disco quilt. There was only one shade of grey available so that was an easy choice. Light grey it is, no brand local stuff.

We are having really lovely weather. Perfect for some fabric prewashing. I spoke with my friend some time ago about my desire to make wonky stars. I had some nigh sky on mind and she had some fabrics in her stash which suits the bill. I play with those once the time is right.

I also needed some outdoor project. Something I can do while still keeping an eye on my girls. Crochet seems like the right thing. I picked up local magazine which I bought last year and we'll see if I build a house. I'm up to little one only.

There has been a lot of food for thought lately regarding blogging and social media. I'm not very active on social media as I don't have smart phone. I don't use my name on FB and I only follow few people on Pinterest since I see no point on creating board if I follow someone who pin the stuff I like as well.

Being part of New Quilt Blogger Blog Hop also provided quite a few themes. Check out Tech talk on how your blog looks on mobile devices. Or would you like to learn more about QR code as label for your quilt.

Thank you all for your lovely respond to my introduction. There are only few people I was not able to reach. If you haven't heard from me you might want to check your settings. Here is good post about No-reply blogger.

  1. At first I thought you were talking about your actual brother and I was confused why he would need servicing and oiling and what it has to do with your blog."Oh yeah Brother make sewing machines" LOL.

The hop is so great! Lots of great discussions!

  2. Haha, I thought the same thing!! LOL I had to click through the reader just to see what exactly was happening! Thanks for the very early morning smile!

Be careful with that, my impending first annual cleaning lead me to the purchase of a new machine, which also makes me smile :)

  3. I also wondered why your brother (not Brother) needed oiling. lol. A giggle in the morning is good for me! Looking at new sewing machines is like looking at puppies. A cute new one is apt to come home with you.

  4. That was a good giggle you also got me on that one :). I also sew with a brother! I should bring mine to be serviced, but the thought of it being away for a period of time is scary. What would I do with myself. Looks like you are filling your time.

  5. I like the crochet to make tiles for the roof.

  6. I take my machine in at least every year, sometimes more often if I sew a LOT. I get really antsy when it isn't around! I love the wonky star idea and the fabric pull for that really speaks to me. Good luck with crocheting; I never have much patience for it myself.

  7. I'll take my Baby (Babylock, lol) in for servicing in July - the machine was a royal PITA and didn't work for many years, but I found a technician that's a miracle worker and he got her running perfectly (thank you Jaret!). Considering how much mileage I put on her, she deserves a once a year spa visit :D

I love that crochet roof you're working on - I've never seen such a thing!

  8. I need to learn something that I can do outdoors, too, Vera. Otherwise I fear my kids will be spending too much of their summer inside while I sew! I just got a smart phone last month and now I'm on IG, but I wasn't doing any of that beforehand. Such a pull to stay abreast of social media but still find time to get work done : P

  9. Hi Vera, just found your blog through the new blogger hop and love your post below. Yours is the best star quilt I've seen. I've not really understood the attraction of Lone Star quilts until seeing your below. I particularly like how you've used the brown in the background with differing scale of pattern. I'm not big on social media either. Love reading blogs and have just started my own but have not been able to make time to understand Instagram or Pinterest. Looking forward to seeing more of your work

  10. Hi Vera, hope your brother enjoyed his vacation. My janome wasn't serviced for its entire life of 18 or so years, got it serviced last year and I think it needs serviced again. Go Figure! I came late to blogging and have really enoyed both blogging and reading blogs. I enjoy the community aspect of it. I have never tried instagram and my facebook is for keeping up with friends and relatives. I would hate to see blogging die out.

  11. I do take my machines in regularly, though it is getting rather expensive considering how many I have accumulated recently (why do people insist on giving me their old machines!). I did the new blogger hop a couple years ago and really enjoyed it! I hope you do too. Can't wait to see your wonky stars!

  12. Fortunately my Symphony is still under warranty and gets to go on vacation one last time next month before I have to start picking up the tab - it's hard to spend money on an annual tune up but worth keeping it running happy.

  13. Sometimes it's good to take a step back to plan and think. Of course, making a house in that time is also a good thing. Especially if it's not a big house. I don't spend much time on social media, either. Other than blogging, which is new to me, I'm not on FB. If I have free time to sit down I'd rather be stitching than typing.

  14. I try to go as long as I can between professional checkups for my sewing machine. It's so expensive and it doesn't help that the last time I took it in for a routine cleaning it came home not working right.
