Little things

Sometimes you see something on Pinterest and decide to make it. That is exactly what happened here.

I used just a small scrap of pretty Echino fabric and piece of batting. It's quilted with all raw edges hidden.

Added to an empty spool and hand stitched together. Probably not a last one I made.

This week I have also made vinyl bag. I wanted to start New Year with a sewing project.

It is becoming my "trademark" to fold the end of zipper into loop. I just like to do that.

Vinyl bags are so practical and you can do boxed corners just like you do on regular fabric. I just didn't cut the end and left the triangle inside.

  2. Your spool is adorable. That reminds me to take a picture of all the spools I emptied for the year and photo them... a weird little thing I have done for the past few years.

I love your "trademark" to make a loop out of the end of the zipper. When my mother-in-law passed away I gained all her sewing things. She was a seamstress and had tons of dress zippers. They are too long for other things and I felt bad cutting them down so far. Now I have an idea! Thanks for the inspiration. You've gained a new follower. :)

  11. Your spooly is adorable - what will you use it for? The vinyl bag is great too - I'm planning on doing special vinyl bags for the greats (niece/nephews) this year for either their birthdays, or for Christmas. There are a lot of cute tutorials online for different designs :D One I particularly like is a glitter vinyl bag - I believe the pattern used 2 layers of vinyl, with glitter in between - how cute would that be for a little girl!

  13. Can you show what you used & how you did the "string" for the spool? I love this project!

    1. The string is supply for jewellery making. It's just folded in half and on one end there is the bead so the spool wouldn't slide to the top. To keep the beads in place I just tied knots. I hope I made it more clear :)

  14. Love what you've done with the empty spool. I can see Christmas decorations and zipper pulls in my future.

  15. I never know what to do with these, we call them cotton reels here in the UK . I tend to keep them in a box thinking they look useful and one day I'll think of something! Occasionally I do use them to keep lengths of ribbon tidy but that's about it. I love this idea, very pretty.
