TGIFF - paper boat

My latest obsession started with bag of leather scraps I was given by a friend. I never had an intention to work with leather. Then I came across The Easiest SAL ever where the goal was to use what you got in your stash and try something new. Well I followed the instructions and came up with few pouches embellished with leather scraps (you can spot those in my header). I love it. Piece of leather takes it to the next level. Fun rhyme but true. This paper boat is the latest. I wasn't happy with the outcome at first. The print I picked is too big and directional so no good. I actually liked the back side of it better but I tried to fix it with some hand stitches and it helped. I got the inspiration from an image I saw on pinterest.

I used piece of scotch tape to cover the foot while sewing over the leather piece.

LOVE

This post is part of Modern Mini Quilt Challenge. I'm going to start with my inspiration for this project so you better understand what the challenge part for me was. It all comes from this music video:

I really love the idea of turning LOVE into simple geometric shapes. Back in February I made this mug rug for my hubby as a Valentine gift. The size does not meet the required measurements so I challenged myself to turn this design into something new. I also wanted to try some new technique. The ideas were running wild but I stuck with circle as the center of this all. This led me into dense circle quilting which I never tried before. You know curves! The circles ended up as spiral by accident but for good.

I have two girls and we love pink color so it wasn't hard to choose the color for the center. Fist I used the trapunto technique to make the shapes more puffy. Later on I hand appliqué the pink fabric on top. I turned this into pillow cover (14.5 x 14.5").

Can you think of better fabric for the back side? No. It has to be polka dot!

Love seems to be popular theme for quilters. We love to create and we love to share our love with our loved ones. You can find all this in my LOVE circle pillow case. I don't have to say I love it, right. It's already win win in our house.

WiP - fresh start

With a new blog I need a new project to start with right? Lately I was doing all kinds of small projects and I'm back in the quilting mode. As I enjoyed making crazy quilt block I had an idea I'll use this technique for Neighborhood quilt. I knew I want to use the ballerina panels as a center piece. It would be pretty cool if each one would live in different color house. BUT every time I try to do something scrappy I realize I don't have enough scraps and my matching side won't let me do it. Buying new fabrics would be an option but not a way I wanted to go. I pull out Summersville charm pack and tried it out. It's my first charm pack ever. I won it over at Finding Fifth about a year ago. I had to adjust the size of the house but it works. I know it's not a usual way you use charm pack but who cares.

I might be adding chimney. I need to have a deadline on projects so it'll be Bday quilt for MiniMe. She'll turn 7 in September and there are going to be 7 ballerinas in that quilt. I'll be adding some flowers, butterflies, birds whatever comes to my mind to make it a girlie version of that quilt. Yeah, nothing like the original pattern by Elizabeth Hartman but that's just me. I like my own twist.

I also have boyish quilt on mind. I'm thinking modern chevron here. Just in solids. BUT my rotary cutter is dull. I need to get a new blade and I need to finish the Newspaper quilt. I got a proof I'm working on it, lol.

I have also joined the bloglovin and switched to Chrome. So far I like it but I have a problem with comments. If there is a form to fill in the email and name my comment doesn't show up. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. If anyone knows what the problem is, please let me know. I used to comment on those blogs before. I have no problem with the regular comment box where I can use my google account. I hope to work that out soon.
