Echino

Never heard of Echino fabric? It's the most beautiful fabric for bag making. Thanks to google I can provide full definition: Echino is the range of fabrics by Etsuko Furuya for Kokka Japan. Fresh,funky and slightly retro designs. Many of these fabrics are a cotton linen mix of a medium to heavyweight and are ideal for craft projects, bags, cushions etc.

I love the colours, prints and texture.

My husband brought me this fabric in two colourways directly from Japan but it's available in many fabric shops all over the world.

During January I made these simple pocket like pouches plus this little one from cutting leftovers.

I have few more prints and I love them all. I will be making new bag soon since the one I previously made is worn out from the daily use. 

The 100 day project - part 5

Those of you who follow me on Instagram already seen my word board. It's a great addition and makes taking photos easier and stylish.

As per usual I make these pouches out of one piece so no seam at the bottom.

Each one is different. I made some zipper pulls out of scraps too.

Some also have some funky lining.

Does anyone remember the elephant from my old Echino bag?

I put it together with some other scraps and made a gift for teacher.

Hopefully she'll like it.

Q2 - Echino bag

Have you noticed May? Somehow it passed me by. Never mind we have June. I finally made my bag and I'm already using it. I can finally tick off first project from my Q2 list.

I actually just made the top and reused the inside. My favorite old bag just needed a face lift. I used the old zippers and handle too. You can see first version of this bag here.

See the old pink lining? It still looks fine even after washing.

Zippers fits well too.

The reason I replaced the old fabric was that it got all worn out. I haven't used any particular pattern. It is simple messenger type of bag.

The new addition I made are front pockets.

Just right for my work keys and sunglasses.

Hot pink details are still my fav thing.

OMG - 03

I'm keeping up with the trend I set this year. Each month I'll try new tutorial as my OMG goal.
This time Magic pouch tutorial caught my eye. Imagine two zippers on one pouch :)

I'm going to use these lovely Echino fabrics. I just love the texture of linen.

Pouches

Since these pouches were given away I can share them with you.

Echino looks great on any bag or pouch.

Finding and using matching zippers makes me happy. Zippers make me happy for reason unknown in general.

I also like long zippers which makes perfect handle.

I make majority of all pouches out of one piece of fabric. Sometimes I put extra stitches at the bottom.

I use one piece for lining as well. It means no extra seam inside.

I also made few more vinyl pouches. I shared the tut in this post.

My last project was team sewing. Mommy+daughter. The task was to create something pink starting with letter T.

So we made pink pouch with three triangles and pink tulip. Pouch in my language is called taštička so it fits perfectly.

There was hidden lollipop inside the tulip.

2017 FAL Q4 list

I wasn't successful in Q3 even though I was very optimistic at the beginning :) So the question is should I join and try again? Sure!

My main goal is to settle into my new space. As you can see the walls are still empty. I also want to go through my stuff and purge a bit.

My list remains almost identical to previous quarters. I just downsized:

Little things

Sometimes you see something on Pinterest and decide to make it. That is exactly what happened here.

I used just a small scrap of pretty Echino fabric and piece of batting. It's quilted with all raw edges hidden.

Added to an empty spool and hand stitched together. Probably not a last one I made.

This week I have also made vinyl bag. I wanted to start New Year with a sewing project.

It is becoming my "trademark" to fold the end of zipper into loop. I just like to do that.

Vinyl bags are so practical and you can do boxed corners just like you do on regular fabric. I just didn't cut the end and left the triangle inside.
