WiP - dealines

Today it'll be all about deadlines and having too much on plate. I put it on my designer's wall to see it all in one place. Isn't cool how much you can fit on a piece of batting :-) If I flip the whole thing over there is one more project hidden on the "back" side.

Plus I promised to make hardware handle upgrade tutorial so I precut for another pouch to take more pictures. Let's place some deadlines on these projects. Tutorial: Saturday 24th (wishful thinking)

BQF - Color wheel

For my second entry to Blogger's quilt festival I pick Color wheel quilt. ROYGBIV category is usually my favorite of all the categories.

I just like color order. I wanted to make color wheel quilt for a while. I used this pattern but added my own twist. I wanted a bit vortex feeling to it.

The center is like gun barrel.

It is my FMQ practice piece. My first attempt still makes me smile. I have a long way ahead of me but this colorful piece helped me to overcome the fear of FMQ. Fear of failure. I hope my amateur quilting will encourage others to give a go.

I turned it into shelf cover. It is my reminder of "You can do it" attitude.

BQF - Broken Herringbone

Welcome to my first entry for the Blogger's quilt festival. To those familiar with my blog it'll be no surprise as this is pretty special quilt to me.

It was a bit long run considering I started it during MSBHQAL last year. I wanted to do this QAL and I talked with my friend about it. She runs fabric store and we made an arrangement. She sent me her fabrics here and I got to play with them. It's now on display in her shop and it was also part of her booth at the local quilt show.

It is actually 2in1 since the B sides turned out pretty too. I used all the leftovers and put it together as jelly roll kind of quilt. Nothing got wasted. I even created matching cushions from the scraps.

It was quilted by local professional and I couldn't be happier with it. I added white line to each side and it makes a pretty detail don't you think? I went with grey binding but white was in consideration as well.

During the process making I had to set up designer's wall as I needed to see and plan the colors ahead. It was a great experience and I was really proud of myself to see it on display.

The size of this quilt is 42.5 x 73" so I'm entering it into small quilt category.

Le Challenge - Nature

When I read the theme of Le Challenge I knew I want to use linen. That feels like nature element to me. What also comes naturally to me is sorting by colors. Therefore some pretty triangle leftovers in pretty color order.

Here is few process making pictures. That's how I pieced the tiny triangles.

For quilting I use masking tape. My #1 tool when it comes to straight line quilting. 

I'm not perfectionist but those uneven stitches had to go. 

Happy accident. My masking tape is the same as those finished triangles so I quilted those lines all over the front piece. I use it for hand stitching as well. 

I used one of my fav tutorials for pouches by Noodlehead called Open wide zippered pouch. The great thing about it is you can open it up really wide :-) 

Hand stitching makes perfect personal touch which I like and it goes so well with linen.

I took few pictures on how to make such handle so if you interested hang in there the tut is coming.

And what is so special about this type of handle? Well you can hang it anywhere you like :-)

WiP - Colorful life

Don't you think colorful sounds very close to wonderful? Do you know what song do I have on mind when I say: Never give up, it's such wonderful life!

That pretty much sums up my recent days but back to colorful business!

I keep on adding colors to Mini Disco project (pattern by Jaybird can be found HERE). I mix solids with batiks and do some chain piecing. Don't you love the look of chain piecing? It's like pretty bunting and I couldn't resist taking some pics.

As solids I use charm squares. Cutting tip: One square equals 2 diamonds (2 half hexagons and 4 triangles) plus you end up with 1 spare triangle.

What do you do with the tiny spare triangle? You start something new of course, lol.

We'll see where these colorful projects will go as I might not have enough of the neutral for background. I tried leaving the neutral out but the look doesn't really work for me. It's just not what I have on mind.
