Have you seen the Fat Quarter Shop series called Classic & Vintage?
Well this time around they are using Delectable Mountains quilt block. You can find the FREE block pattern here.
I hardly make classic blocks but this one caught my eye and I decided to challenge myself and participate.
I asked my friend Monika for help as I wanted to set it off center. She kindly provided me with coloring page. If you would like one yourself go to my google doc here.
I like to switch between cutting and sewing so I was making blocks by colors.
I also wanted to show you that you can play with the background fabric as well. I hope you see the potential.
Do not worry. Not all the blocks have perfect points and I had to redo 3 last blocks since I was not happy with my fabric choice. See for yourself.

Have you noticed there is one purple block lighter? I bet you didn't, lol.
My gang was asking me if I ran out of the other fabric. Nope. I wanted to make it more interesting. Just something that will make you wonder :)
If you would like to see close up of the fabrics used, please check out my scrappy post here and here.
These are mostly local no brand fabrics.
Thank you Fat Quarter Shop for your fun hop!
I *LOVE* this, I'm totally a rainbow girl...but I love this for the design as well!
ReplyDeleteThis is an awesome interpretation of the pattern, Vera. The subtle color fade and gradient of the background fabric is a great touch to your normal ROYGBIV theme!!! :)
ReplyDeleteVera, this is all kinds of awesome!! I noticed the lighter purple right away and immediately thought you did it intentionally. . . because you are kind of sneaky that way ;) It looks great!
ReplyDeleteThis is great and very you! The rainbow colors are so nice and I like the off-center layout a lot!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful! I love the way you varied the background fabrics and the offset center. You sly devil with that "made you look" light purple block, but I agree it does add a little sneaky interesting focal point. Any ideas on how you'll quilt this? It's got so much visual appeal in the design I feel like I'd totally get stuck on the quilting part.
ReplyDeleteLove the colour changes in the grey - really nice touch!
ReplyDeleteI love rainbows and this fabulous. I love how you introduced shadow effect by changing the grey in the background.
ReplyDeleteI love how this came out. It is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteSo fantastic! And I LOVE that light purple block. Such a brilliant choice!
ReplyDeleteWith quilting I usually DO run out of fabric and, if people ask, I always say it was intentional. That is the beauty of handmade.
ReplyDeleteThis is so great, I love it. Any plans on the quilting yet?
ReplyDeleteSo far this is the most stunning quilt on the hop. Very unique! I love the way you made it your own.
ReplyDeleteStunning ,love your colorful fabric combo!
ReplyDeleteVery "delectable" Vera. I love it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for pointing out Classic & Vintage Series. I love it. Your quilt is gorgeous. Love the background how it goes from light to dark.
ReplyDeleteI think your mountains turned out fabulous, I love everything about it. I have always wanted to make one of these, so maybe soon after seeing yours. What do you mean by local no name fabrics that you used?
ReplyDeleteI did not see the light purple fabric you put in there! It must be true that if you don't point a mistake out most people won't see it. I know this wasn't a mistake but a design element, but this does show that people should just keep a mistake quiet and no one will notice.lol Thank you for letting us know the pattern you used, etc.

Totally love your take on this pattern. :-) Nope didn't notice the lavender one...Angela Walters said the eye looks for symmetry, and I guess mine sure did. Love that little touch.
ReplyDeleteSimply gorgeous. I love your choice of colours and fabrics, they add a beauitful depth to your quilt.
ReplyDeleteVera, loved this in instagram, but the photos here do it so much more justice. You have done really well - love the lighter purple too. And love the off centre look as well.
ReplyDeleteforgot to add, love how you grey strengthens or fades out, depending on how you look at it.
DeleteLove your off centre layout and the rainbow effect with your colour choices. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI really like your arrangement of the block, being off center makes the quilt design very interesting.
ReplyDeleteI love how you've offset the yellow blocks. Makes for a stunning quilt.
ReplyDeletePÄ›kný quilt a té sv. fialové jsem si hned vÅ¡imla a Å™Ãkala si, že je to dobrý nápad, že to je zajÃmavÄ›jÅ¡Ã. :-)
ReplyDeleteI love your setting of these blocks and the way you used the different shades of gray across the quilt. It's such a beautiful way to modernize an old pattern.
ReplyDeleteHow much fun is this! Perfect choice of layout.
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful Vera. I love all the colour against the grey background, and the light purple block is a brilliant extra :)
