Le Challenge - Charity

Le Challenge is one of my fav linky. I like to check how other interprets the same theme. I struggled a bit with this month though - Charity.

I took part in local charity which gather together pouches for elderly women in hospital. It is an ongoing project so I though about making some pouches. Then I thought about my friend who organized some charity project as well. Maybe I should make some gift for her. Either way I ended up with pouch.

The front is inspired by free hand curves pillow cover by Red Pepper Quilts. You can find the tutorial here. I tried some curves before but not with such dense quilting. Love it!

It is once again Open Wide Zippered pouch by Noodlehead. The handle is made out of zipper.

It is made out of scraps which is always great.

Tribute

Here we go. I tried to stay off computer as much as I could and bit by bit I managed to finish it. I try to name quilts by song titles. This one is not finished yet but I picked "Tribute" as I listened to album called Tribute by John Newman while making it. It is also a tribute to quilting community which helped me to get to this point. Thank you!

Here’s my tribute

As usual I love my latest finish the most and I tend to say that it is the best thing I have ever made, lol. It started out as ruler testing on scraps. I was after mini only. The original pattern is by Jaybird quilts called Mini Disco. I used both the mini and the regular Hex N More ruler as well.

It is made out of batiks leftovers and solid charm squares. Don't you like the back as well?

Once I had it all on my design wall I was worried I mess up the layout. I don't have machine in the same room so I took off random pieces keeping them in order.

I pieced them in the exact order as well.

I placed ironing board in front of the design wall and once I pressed the seams I put it back up. I kept the exact order the whole time while working on it.

I don't usually pin but pincushion wrapped around my wrist was a big helper.

I'm entering my Tribute into Jaybird quilts SAL link up @ Sew Sweetness just in time. Phew!

The pieced Mini Disco part measures 24 x 39" with added borders enlarged to 58x74" quilt top.

WiP - mini disco

As I waited for my ~~machine~~ Brother to return I cut up some stripes as a background for my mini disco project. I decided to sprinkle few triangles on both sides. What started as testing the ruler on Mini Disco pattern by Jaybird quilts turned into something bigger.

But how can you say NO to rainbow happiness?
Brother came home yesterday so I started the piecing process questioning my own sanity. It is shrinking as I'm sewing the bits and pieces together. Once I have all the stripes it'll shrink even more. I would love to finish in time for Jaybird quilts SAL link up but we'll see.

Today is also second round of New Quilt Blogger Blog Hop @ Plum and June.

I wanted to give you some more as my introduction picture was not the only one we took that day. I was also playing Superman with a quilt as my cape. Well, I got a bit caught up while flying in canola field.

Planning and thinking

There is not much happening. My Brother is on vacation, getting some oil and service treatment. Do you take your machine for yearly check up as well?

I went pick up background fabric for my Mini Disco quilt. There was only one shade of grey available so that was an easy choice. Light grey it is, no brand local stuff.

We are having really lovely weather. Perfect for some fabric prewashing. I spoke with my friend some time ago about my desire to make wonky stars. I had some nigh sky on mind and she had some fabrics in her stash which suits the bill. I play with those once the time is right.

I also needed some outdoor project. Something I can do while still keeping an eye on my girls. Crochet seems like the right thing. I picked up local magazine which I bought last year and we'll see if I build a house. I'm up to little one only.

There has been a lot of food for thought lately regarding blogging and social media. I'm not very active on social media as I don't have smart phone. I don't use my name on FB and I only follow few people on Pinterest since I see no point on creating board if I follow someone who pin the stuff I like as well.

New Quilt Blogger Blog Hop

Welcome to my Let's get Acquainted blog hop post. I'm Vera and I live and blog from the Czech Republic. You should check out where that is as even Kim Kardashian just pay a visit, lol.

I used to and still do blog in my language as well but I started this blog last year based on some advices given during the hop. I no longer wanted to be "vexa" and I wanted to get more interactive with international community. So far so good!

I'm keen on any handcraft but when I was home with my first child I started with sewing. I made few softies and ordered local magazine with some bag patterns. At first making patchwork blocks was really not my thing. It was not easy on my cheap machine and I like easy and simple. The big turn came with new sewing machine two year ago. I welcomed home Brother NV350, special treat for my 35th Bday. Everyone figured out how old I am? Good!

I'm still hesitant to call myself a quilter. For most of my projects I combine local fabrics with designer's one to create my own combo. You can check all my quilts here. I'm obsessed with color order and matching colors. In between quilt making I enjoy small projects like pouches, bags or cushions. Being Aries I like to do things my way. Just read the characteristics, that is so me: Moody, Impulsive, Impatient ...

I don't like my picture taken but let's do exception for this hop. I wanted to show you couple of my fav things. My fav scarf, colors I like such as grey and hot pink plus some stuff I made. I took it all outside and it started to rain! I had clothesline full of laundry and I was so pissed off. BTW those glasses represent my soft spot for Bono Vox, lol.

I'm not a fan of wordy posts. I like to get straight to the point. Keep it simple. I sew and blog when I feel like it. No forcing! I would recommend the same thing to all new bloggers. Be yourself, enjoy yourself. Don't feel obligated. You have to love what you do! Otherwise it will show. Let's have fun, bring some humor and keep it real. At least that is what I'm aiming for :-)

Share your process making, share your experience as others might benefit as well. Share your desires and anything you want :-) Share what you love. I love to be home alone. I love that the TV turns itself off when I fall asleep. The only show that kept me up was Dexter. I'm yet to watch the final season though. I love to make others smile and inspire. Shoot me a compliment and we can be friends. That is how the Aries roll! I can assure you there is never lack of ideas. I'm always up to something. I hope you'll join me.
