Welcome to Throwback Thursday. This time it's shirt quilts edition for me. You can read the gnome edition here. When I talked about whole roll of gnomes that was just a 10 meters if anyone was wondering, lol.
When I started with quilting I didn't pay much attention to fabrics. I wanted something affordable in case I ruin it. So my choice were fabrics which are used for making shirts.
It also helped that my friend was selling those. So I bought some and made this quilt for my FIL.
Quilting is not my strong feature so you see I haven't done much of it.
I tried zig zag stitch on binding. It worked pretty well.
I also used these fabrics on my FMQ adventure. This one was started during Groovy quilt along.
My quilting style is called ANYHOW :)
It is fun to look back. Come and join Throwback Thursday.
What fun quilts! You really made a leap in your quilting density from the first to the second and the third. I love how soft these neutrals look. I imagine them to be cozy! Thanks for linking up with Throwback Thursday @ A Quarter Inch from the Edge!
ReplyDeleteLooking back on these quilts, it is fun to see how you have progressed, Vera. And your leap into FMQing was so much faster than me. I sent out my quilts to be long arm quilted for years, and when I did quilt it was only stitch in the ditch for a looooong time.
ReplyDeleteQuilting always trips me up! I still struggle with quilting...especially FMQ! The zig zag quilt looks so cozy!
ReplyDeleteLove the...greys? The zig-zag makes me think of Charlie Brown's shirt :)
ReplyDeleteI bet those are the softest quilts! I love all the calming colors you used as well. I loved that you jumped right in and tried FMQ with them, it created very cool textures on the quilts.
ReplyDeleteI don't know when you started quilting, but really, even though you used "affordable" fabric, your use of shirtings was really on trend. I love the colors. They look soft and cozy. You were more adventuresome with your FMQ than I was starting out.
ReplyDeleteI love these quilts. They look perfect for cuddling under, which is the best use for a quilt. Your FMQ is wonderful. I'm going to adopt your FMQ style "ANYHOW".
ReplyDeleteVera, these are so fun to see! You are fearless & your Quilts are very artistic.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness Diana mentioned Charlie Brown's shirt, and now that's all I can see in that quilt, lol! What a "blast from the past"! The quilts are great, and I see nothing wrong with using what we have, what we can easily get, what we can *affordably* get - I love using up whatever I can get my hands on :D You can even, sometimes, use the back of fabrics as a paler version of the front fabric - two fabrics for the price of one ;)
ReplyDeleteI like anyhow!!!
ReplyDeleteBet your FIL loved it! You did a great job

ReplyDeleteActually really love that grey piece - it's very cool and modern. Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteI really like the simplicity of shirt fabrics in quilts.
ReplyDeleteI think we all start with what we can afford or not be afraid of stuffing up.
