Stars making

Two years ago I tried Scandinavian folded stars. This year I wanted to make them with kids on Christmas fair. I used this tutorial but I didn't feel like all that ironing for many strips therefore I tried something different.

I made strips out of felt and I also used double sided interfacing which I ironed on two fabrics. Of course I made larger piece which I cut into strips afterwards. The stars have raw edges but that's fine. Mixing felt and fabric worked as well. Plus they look different from each side.

It was a new to me experience with kids.  I'm still not sure how to feel about it :)

Also for those who know me I don't have to explain these stars are not my usual style. Not matchy or in order in any way but I can handle that from time to time :)

I was a bit nervous as I didn't know what to expect. On last minute I put together a box of things as I wanted to have options for those who didn't like the stars or for smaller children.

I came up with drawing snowflakes on shiny glass rocks and I took few rock as well. I also had another option of making comets from felt leftovers to create ornament.

There was also exhibition of Advent calendars. I use this lone star as our Advent calendar plus I made a simple paper box with numbers as my second entry.

The message of this whole post is: Don't be afraid to try new things, mixing materials and be creative! Stay well during the festive season!

OMG - 01

I have no real resolutions for this year but I'm up to some challenge. Project Quilting Season 8 might be just the thing. The first challenge theme is Eight is great!

I like origami and stars so my thoughts went by this way. I made a paper template simplified the origami star and it look quite good. I even picked fabrics.

Time for fabric trial which doesn't look very well but as I type I have another idea how to make this work...

I also like to play with primary colors and their mixing. Another idea is to make 8 circles either hand stitching or machine.

But wouldn't making octagons be easier? Squares are definitely easier than circles. So I got my head buzzing but there is only a week to complete this theme. I'm making this theme my OMG that way I will still have motivation to finish any of this idea during the month of January.

How do you work on your challenges? Do you stick to one idea from the very beginning or you have many and find it hard to choose?

Scrappy fabric stars

I decided to make some stars for teachers this year. The tutorial is called Scandinavian Fabric stars but mine are rather scrappy.

I made just one as trial and I got it wrong. My ends were not perfectly hidden but after posting photo on IG I figured it out and made few more.

They are pretty fun but their non matching look makes me a bit nervous. They are not staying so I can handle it for little while :)

I'm also making paper boxes for those and little something out of old calendar.

Once all finished I'm back to my usual rainbow self. I have it all ready to go.

Q3 - Cherry Christmas cushion finished

I finished my September goal 3 days late. Still in time to link as Q3 FAL finish though. There are still couples of things on my Q3 list and I'm working towards one more.

I stitched around the stars first and I added some pebbles. I tried my best and let me tell you. FMQ for me is anything but relaxing. The machine sounds like machine-gun and it is an adrenalin adventure.

I have so much to learn. Coordinating the speed of machine and hands goes first as my stitches are tiny in some places. I did not experience any tension issues so the back looks pretty much as the front.

It is another cushion to add to our Cherry Christmas deco. You can see the previous one here.
The star pattern is called Round & Round by Thimble Blossoms.

They are double sided. That is why I keep the zipper on the side.

Planning and thinking

There is not much happening. My Brother is on vacation, getting some oil and service treatment. Do you take your machine for yearly check up as well?

I went pick up background fabric for my Mini Disco quilt. There was only one shade of grey available so that was an easy choice. Light grey it is, no brand local stuff.

We are having really lovely weather. Perfect for some fabric prewashing. I spoke with my friend some time ago about my desire to make wonky stars. I had some nigh sky on mind and she had some fabrics in her stash which suits the bill. I play with those once the time is right.

I also needed some outdoor project. Something I can do while still keeping an eye on my girls. Crochet seems like the right thing. I picked up local magazine which I bought last year and we'll see if I build a house. I'm up to little one only.

There has been a lot of food for thought lately regarding blogging and social media. I'm not very active on social media as I don't have smart phone. I don't use my name on FB and I only follow few people on Pinterest since I see no point on creating board if I follow someone who pin the stuff I like as well.

Thank you all for your lovely respond to my introduction. There are only few people I was not able to reach. If you haven't heard from me you might want to check your settings. Here is good post about No-reply blogger.
