OMG - 02

OMG, it's already February 7th and there are only few hours left to link up our goal - one monthly goal. I'll go with this heart block which I would like to turn into cushion.

As a side project I'll be working on more hearts. You know, February :) I tested this small heart block and I want to make 9 of them and turn them also into cushion. If I don't suceed it might be my March goal. We'll see.

Rainbow

Pink and red zipper has started this rainbow project. You can check those in my previous post.

Orange zipper used with log cabin piece.

Yellow with my fav four colour combo.

Green with 7 colours of chakras.

Turquoise is one of the OMG pouches.

My fav is this one with zipper leftovers. Indigo. This is how I made it.

I sewed one piece by one.

Similar like sewing with selvage.

And last one is violet.

Did you know there is a meaning behind rainbow colours? With a little help from Mr. Google:
Each of the original eight colours represented an idea: pink for sexuality, red for life, orange for healing, yellow for sun, green for nature, blue for art, indigo for harmony, and violet for spirit. Before becoming synonymous with fabulous pride movements, the rainbow flag has stood for many social movements.

Rainbow feels and sounds like a suitable word of 2020.

Scrap/blog challenge

It seems that my blog got a little neglected this year so perfect time to reflect on it.

I have to admit I haven't read blogs either. It is so easy to go through pics on Instagram. Join in with a hashtag, like pictures just by clicking. You all know it.

Are blogs "dead" these days? Who knows. I'll try to revive mine next year and we'll see how it goes.

I'll be working on this scarp challenge. It fits well with my goal of using 100 zippers which I bought in April.

Oh yes, This type of pouch is still my fav.

Squares and stripes are the best way to use up any scraps.

It is challenging though since random placement isn't my kind of thing. Well I try but you can still notice some type of order :) Dark side, light side but at least the zipper pulls matches from one point of view.

Stars making

Two years ago I tried Scandinavian folded stars. This year I wanted to make them with kids on Christmas fair. I used this tutorial but I didn't feel like all that ironing for many strips therefore I tried something different.

I made strips out of felt and I also used double sided interfacing which I ironed on two fabrics. Of course I made larger piece which I cut into strips afterwards. The stars have raw edges but that's fine. Mixing felt and fabric worked as well. Plus they look different from each side.

It was a new to me experience with kids.  I'm still not sure how to feel about it :)

Also for those who know me I don't have to explain these stars are not my usual style. Not matchy or in order in any way but I can handle that from time to time :)

I was a bit nervous as I didn't know what to expect. On last minute I put together a box of things as I wanted to have options for those who didn't like the stars or for smaller children.

I came up with drawing snowflakes on shiny glass rocks and I took few rock as well. I also had another option of making comets from felt leftovers to create ornament.

There was also exhibition of Advent calendars. I use this lone star as our Advent calendar plus I made a simple paper box with numbers as my second entry.

The message of this whole post is: Don't be afraid to try new things, mixing materials and be creative! Stay well during the festive season!

The 100 day project - part 5

Those of you who follow me on Instagram already seen my word board. It's a great addition and makes taking photos easier and stylish.

As per usual I make these pouches out of one piece so no seam at the bottom.

Each one is different. I made some zipper pulls out of scraps too.

Some also have some funky lining.

Does anyone remember the elephant from my old Echino bag?

I put it together with some other scraps and made a gift for teacher.

Hopefully she'll like it.

The 100 day project - part 4

I'm still doing that IG thing :) I fall behind few days and than catch up again.

Here are some finishes I wanted to share. Cutlery pouch or a pencil case. Anyway you want to call these.

I previously made one (the one at the bottom). I like the long loop handle which fits around the arm. Perfect for carrying it around.

I pulled out this mini out of drawer and finished binding.

I made it the same size as the first one. Now I have a duo minis.

Another small triangle pouch with a zipper handle.

There are the tiniest triangles at the back.

Meantime I finished some more pouches but I haven't took the pictures yet. So I see you soon..

TGIFF creatures

Welcome to TGIFF!

Hosting TGIFF has motivated me and I have a finish to share. My girl is calling it "friend". She was sick and stayed home. To be honest with you it was a hard cooperation :) I don't know how others do it but I prefer to work on my own.

I showed her some pics on Pinterest for inspiration. I really liked those with one eye but she did not. I visited few pages and probably found the source. They are called Hohos and you can check them out for yourself here. Anyway I made this one to suits her requests and to use up my stash and scraps.

And she was happy with it. She already slept with her new friend. The trouble is, I have two girls. When you make something for one you can be sure the other one will want it as well.

She draw a little sketch and I tried. I used old tights for both of these creatures.

It is not the Hoho I wanted to create either so I had to make one more...

Just a little one but finally the type I wanted :) Great project for scraps or old clothes. Get inspired by this tut and make one too.
