I don't know about you but I'm highly influenced by those blogs I read. If that is not enough there is Lorna with her FB feed showing off all kinds of stuff. That is how I ended up at Paula's page - The Sassy Quilter.
Have you heard she's hosting Triangle Quilt Along? There is still time to join in, just saying.
As I looked around here blog I found an article on How to Clean a Sewing Machine. Those pictures really made me curious and I finally unscrewed my machine and ......
it looked very similar. Yikes!
This is the first time I actually went in. I was afraid I won't be able to put it back together but it's not that difficult. Once I got it all together I needed to try if it works. What am I going to sew? Few scraps will do it. I pulled out scraps from BH quilt. If you ever made Broken Herringbone you probably have those triangles somewhere as well. I made few squares out of it. I was not worrying about matching the seams just done it in A style and couldn't stop.
You know what A style is? ANYHOW, lol. Some call it improv style but I'm more A kind of girl, he he.
It looks more blue than it actually is. Those colors are more dark green with blue undertone. I ended up with two squares big enough to make cushion cover. Should I do some straight line quilting or try out some FMQ with an A style? We'll see.
Then there is February goal I would like to meet. So I pieced the diamonds for Lonely Star.
I'm currently at decision making on the background fabric. Should I go with dark or stick with white?
I started those two projects and cleaned my machine just because I wasn't feeling like quilting my color wheel quilt. Do you also start new things just because you don't feel like finishing the "old" ones? I know you do! :-)
I'll be linking up with Let's Bee Social! and WiP Wednesday.
I absolutely start new things just because I'm not "in the mood" for whatever projects I actually have on the go. I've only cleaned out my machine once and it was a disgrace. I should probably do it again... Maybe next week :-). I think I like the dark background for your star,p. The white looks lovely, but the dark is almost unexpected... It'll look lovely either way, though.
ReplyDeleteE xx
I bet your sewing machine sounded so much nicer. I actually clean mine once a week or more. I love the projects and that is exactly how I end up with so may works in progress.
ReplyDeleteOoo I wonder what my sewing machine looks like inside?! I like the dark background best, makes the colours look more vibrant :)
ReplyDeleteVera! I'm shocked at your machine! I clean mine out about once a week. I like the dark background for the star, it's a gorgeous star!
ReplyDeleteI think I just sneezed looking at your first pic ;)
ReplyDeleteOh how I love Paula! So glad you found her. She's full of useful little tricks. I admit, I'm a bit obsessive about cleaning out around my bobbin case. I find that my machine hops around and breaks thread fairly frequently if I don't stay on top of it. I am guilty of not oiling my machine, ever. I really need to learn how and when to do that.
ReplyDeleteI love the star! I vote dark background all the way. :)
I swipe through the bobbin case with a cleaning brush every time I change the bobbin. It helps keep the build-up down to a minimum and it only takes a few seconds. I love your Lone Star...it's probably one of my favorite patterns. I vote for the dark background.
ReplyDeleteMy bobbin case looks like that after every quilt I make! I like the lone star on the darker back ground.
ReplyDeleteI definitely start new things when I can't be bothered or get bored with an existing WIP!
ReplyDeleteHmmmmmmmm the star shows up better on the white background, but the brown background is so rich looking - I think it's my favourite!
ReplyDeleteI do a quick clean out on my machine every week or so --- if I get too much lint in the bobbin case my bobbins jump around and get really noisy. I use a q-tip in that area and use the shop vac to suck out the lint that's easy to get to. About every month I take apart the bobbin casing so I can get under it to clean - I think a lot of machines get really testy when they're too linty - my Babylock sure gets miserable, lol!
I recently cleaned out my machine too - it runs so much better. I prefer the dark background for your gorgeous lone star.
ReplyDeleteOh this lonley star will be so beautiful, love your fabric choices here...
ReplyDeleteI vote for the dark background too, and you have shamed me into cleaning up my machine too!
ReplyDeleteOoh, now you'll notice how much happier your machine is and you'll be cleaning more often won't you?!?!!? hehehehe...... The star is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI'm voting for the dark background ... love how it sets off the colors in the star! This reminds me, I need to clean my machine too! I never do it often enough.
ReplyDeleteI find it oddly rewarding to clean up the piles of lint in the bobbin case after each project. Weird, I know. My. Ore is for the darker background, a wonderful complement to the FMF in the star!
ReplyDeleteOops...typo above....should read. "My vote is for...."
ReplyDeleteI agree with the others, the black background is the one that shows off your amazing star the best!
ReplyDeleteI have to say I actually do clean mine out often.... probably every time I screw something up and have to figure out what is going on in there lol. But we can just say it's because Im conscientious and all that and clean my machine regularly lol!
ReplyDeleteStopping by from Lee's hop as usual :)

I have to go for the dark background, too. It's a gorgeous block!
ReplyDeleteI am too "chicken" to open my machine up.... I am afraid I'll mess up something.
Maybe I'll try on my baby lock.. It isn't computerized....
Love those improv blocks!
Susie
Your A blocks look great. Love that A idea! Your lone star is so pretty! I like the dark background, too. Glad to know I helped you to make the acquaintance of Paula at The Sassy Quilter! Yay!
ReplyDeleteI am with everyone else, I like the dark background on the lone star. :D Also, I'm glad you cleaned your machine! I try to clean mine between projects, or once a week, whichever comes first. :)
ReplyDeleteALSO. Wow, I adore the blocks you made from the broken herringbone scraps!! I have tons of them and have never done anything with them. Your blocks are incredible. :D
The star looks great!! I like the dark background too. I need to clean my sewing machine too. Last time I cleaned it was about six months ago. Thank you for reminding me. The blogs I read definitely influence me, like yours :)
ReplyDelete-Soma
I'm voting for the dark background for the star also. And I'm glad to see that you're machine is getting a dusting! It's amazing how much lint collects under there!
