I wanted to finish the color wheel so I can have picture taken on the field, lol. It is my first finish of the Q2 list which can be found HERE.
It was a big FMQ practice. Next time I might even attempt some FMQ pattern. It measures 37" and it's square. It'll become bookshelft cover.
There are many imperfect places but looking at it from a distance it makes pretty fun color wheel quilt. Plus the main goal of getting confidence while FMQ was achieved. Yes I still have tons to learn. I was so happy to read that my WIP posts encouraged some of you to do FMQ yourself.
I used pattern by Rachel called Wheel quilt. I added my own twist to it. I was after vortex look but I don't think there is much. Maybe on the back side.
I haven't always used the same thread for front and back side but it's not noticeable. Surprisingly I had no tension issues. Once I set the machine for the first log I kept the same setting for the rest. The main problem for me is to hold the quilt properly. I still sort of drag it rather than move smoothly. It would be better if I was covering the whole width of each log rather than going back and forth in lines.
Linking up with TGIFF and Crazy mom quilts.
High five, Vera! You did a fantastic job! I love that first picture in the field. Hope to see many more fmq pieces in the coming months. Congrats on a gorgeous finish!
ReplyDeleteThis is absolute perfection! I am in love with that quilting!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty!
ReplyDeleteReally Cool! Looks really interesting.
ReplyDeleteGosh this is beautiful! Your FMQ looks pretty amazing to me & I can absolutely see the vortex-y thing happening.
ReplyDeleteI really love this. I love the twist you added to it--and the first photo is stunning!

ReplyDeleteYou did a super job and this quilt is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous! Love it! And the FMQ really adds to it!
ReplyDeleteFive? I'm giving you TEN! It's wonderful, the FMQ sets it off perfectly, and I love the photos in the field. My learning experiences are never this pretty.
ReplyDeleteI love it so much!!! Nice job! And don't worry, your FMQ just gets better and better with practice. What machine do you use to do your quilting? (sorry maybe you have said this before but I am new to your blog)
ReplyDeleteI love it and your photography looks great! :)

Oh, my goodness, it's beautiful! The quilting really makes it, and the different colors of thread on the back... WOW! Very nice job!
ReplyDeleteLove the quilt from the front and from the back. Great start to your FMQ ing adventure.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful quilt! Great to hang and use. I think there's a lot of vortex effect there front and back and I love that you used the various thread colors in the quilting. Thanks for sharing at TGIFF.
ReplyDeleteIt's a masterpiece, Vera! The loveliest book shelf cover around. :)
ReplyDeleteYou give me inspiration to step up and get busy with my FMQ. Great job!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I hope you'll give it a try ;)
DeleteYum quilting! It looks amazing! And I love the pic in the field. :)
ReplyDeleteHigh five from me, too! I definitely see the vortex curve, and I think it's enhanced by the fmq in rows. I love how the thread color on the background radiates from the bold colors in the color wheel. The pic in the field is genius!
ReplyDeleteHigh five!! My favorite part is the center-most part of the circle, where the stitching continues but the fabric does not. I find that very interesting to look at!
ReplyDeleteVery cool! Great way to practice the FMQ - looks really good!
ReplyDeleteVěrko, paráda. A na vše je nutné se dívat z odstupem, aby z toho člověk měl nějaký ten dojem a pocit. To se ti vážně hodně povedlo.
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt and the quilting. I am catching up and I also enjoyed your post about the quilting process. I find that some threads break a lot for me too, but it is not always second class threads. I think that some sewing machines like certain threads better than others. I am looking forward to your next fmq project now.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely high five! It looks fantastic :-)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely vortex action on the back - and the front is gorgeous - congratulations on such a fabulous finish, Vera! I love your finish picture - instead of Field of Dreams (the movie), you have Field of Colour - the Quilt :D Is hubby holding it up for you? You should ask him to poke his head around the quilt next time so we can have a peek, lol! (My husband wouldn't peek if I asked him, and neither would DS2 - but DS1 would!)
ReplyDeletewow! the quilting on this is amazing!!
ReplyDeleteSTUNNING !!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLooks good! i like the fact that your white background material has "coloured" up with the reflection of your coloured threads you have FMQ with. Slightly skewed effect of the vortex makes the quilt more interesting than the original colour wheel pattern. Great job
ReplyDeleteThe picture in the field, WOW!!! I love the quilt and FMQ quilting. Awesome... Awesome
ReplyDeleteVera, it's fantastic!! The quilting looks amazing and the photos are lovely!!

Such a fantastic finish Vera!! Absolutely gorgeous :) Your quilting is awesome, and i love your photos!
ReplyDeleteI can see the vortex! I think your idea worked. (And I love the fingers in the photos! :))
ReplyDeleteI love the quilting here. It really brings out the movement in the design. I still think this is the best colour wheel ever!
ReplyDeleteLove this, congrats on all your finishes :o)
