Q2 - Color wheel finished

I wanted to finish the color wheel so I can have picture taken on the field, lol. It is my first finish of the Q2 list which can be found HERE.

Finish Along 2014

It was a big FMQ practice. Next time I might even attempt some FMQ pattern. It measures 37" and it's square. It'll become bookshelft cover.

There are many imperfect places but looking at it from a distance it makes pretty fun color wheel quilt. Plus the main goal of getting confidence while FMQ was achieved. Yes I still have tons to learn. I was so happy to read that my WIP posts encouraged some of you to do FMQ yourself.

I used pattern by Rachel called Wheel quilt. I added my own twist to it. I was after vortex look but I don't think there is much. Maybe on the back side.

I haven't always used the same thread for front and back side but it's not noticeable. Surprisingly I had no tension issues. Once I set the machine for the first log I kept the same setting for the rest. The main problem for me is to hold the quilt properly. I still sort of drag it rather than move smoothly. It would be better if I was covering the whole width of each log rather than going back and forth in lines.

My sewing corner will become really colorful with this pretty addition. Give me five! :-)

  13. What a wonderful quilt! Great to hang and use. I think there's a lot of vortex effect there front and back and I love that you used the various thread colors in the quilting. Thanks for sharing at TGIFF.

  17. High five from me, too! I definitely see the vortex curve, and I think it's enhanced by the fmq in rows. I love how the thread color on the background radiates from the bold colors in the color wheel. The pic in the field is genius!

  18. High five!! My favorite part is the center-most part of the circle, where the stitching continues but the fabric does not. I find that very interesting to look at!

  20. Věrko, paráda. A na vše je nutné se dívat z odstupem, aby z toho člověk měl nějaký ten dojem a pocit. To se ti vážně hodně povedlo.

  21. I love your quilt and the quilting. I am catching up and I also enjoyed your post about the quilting process. I find that some threads break a lot for me too, but it is not always second class threads. I think that some sewing machines like certain threads better than others. I am looking forward to your next fmq project now.

  23. Definitely vortex action on the back - and the front is gorgeous - congratulations on such a fabulous finish, Vera! I love your finish picture - instead of Field of Dreams (the movie), you have Field of Colour - the Quilt :D Is hubby holding it up for you? You should ask him to poke his head around the quilt next time so we can have a peek, lol! (My husband wouldn't peek if I asked him, and neither would DS2 - but DS1 would!)

  25. Looks good! i like the fact that your white background material has "coloured" up with the reflection of your coloured threads you have FMQ with. Slightly skewed effect of the vortex makes the quilt more interesting than the original colour wheel pattern. Great job
