Q4 - knitted socks finished

As my mom would say: Keep calm and your feet warm!

Those were on my Q4 list and I find knitting pretty calming and brain less activity. At least this is very simple pattern. I used to knit on 5 needles but once I learned how to use just 2 there was no other way for me. I call those sleeping socks. They don't have the perfect fit but slide off pretty easily once you decide your feet are warm enough.

When I posted my progress pic some said that they never saw such way of knitting socks. I used just one ball of wool. You can pull the end of wool from the middle out and that is how it was possible to make both at the same time out of one ball of wool. Does that makes sense? I admit I'm lacking knitting vocabulary. If you would like to see more pics check out this tutorial in Czech :) By coincidence Janine from Rainbow Hare is celebrating her linky party Wool on Sunday so I'll be linking with her this time around.

Beside knitting, making pouches gives me instant gratification so I stock up some zippers. Yeah, look at those neon colors! Plus I needed white thread and yet another coincidence Molli celebrates Sunday Stash! No fabrics on my side but notions count as well, right.

And check out our new ceiling. The girls got their own galaxy. It is made by professional with some extra colors and it does glow in the dark. It is beautiful. Just like our own little planetarium. We all just love it. There are actually some real constellations.

My fav part is the eclipse, few falling stars and milky way.

  1. I know exactly what you mean by sleeping socks! I always start out with a pair on and slip them off in the middle of the night. You really did pick up a few neon colored zippers - it will be fun to see you use them in the future. And the ceiling is stunning!! :)

  2. Love your socks!! I wish I could knit. . . wait, you knitted with FIVE needles???? OMG I can't keep track of two! LOL And what you said about using both ends of the ball of wool makes sense. . . knitting two socks at once. . . not so much ;)

The ceiling!!! OH MY! It is spectacular!!

  6. Just visiting from Janine's lovely blog. Those socks look warm and cozy. It makes perfect sense knitting from the outside and from the middle of one ball of wool. Oh my goodness your ceiling is rather impressive!

  7. I must try that way of knitting socks - I use 5 needles at present and it is a pain.
As for the night sky decoration I too fluorescent stars on my ceiling. They fade slowly once the light is turned off - my daughter did them for me many years ago and I love them. But your decorations are even more amazing - lucky girls.

  9. Hi I just linked to you from janine's Wool on Sundays and have found out I'm not the only one who goes to bed with socks on then slips them off when my feet warm up ;~) I love your eclectic mix of posts it's just like you're talking to us having a little natter about your week I love it, will have to pop by more often. Thanks for sharing x I love your ceiling my boys would have loved it when they were young. I did something with glow in the dark paint and alien faces for them and must admit at times it was a bit spooky, a galaxy would have been more relaxing in hindsight.
Good luck in all you do, thanks again for your interesting posts.

  10. I always wanted a ceiling like that when I was little! Amazing!
My homemade socks also end up as bed socks. Not because my feet get that cold in this warm climate, just that I am not yet knitting anything well enough for it to be worn in public! Ha ha!
Have you tried the two circular bendy needles method?

  11. The ceiling - I can't believe my eyes - I wish I'd thought to do that (or rather - have it done, lol) for my boys when they were younger - it's incredible! The "two socks on one needle" photo is a hoot - I would never have thought that was the way sockies could be stitched, lol. Yours are lovely - I too go to bed with socks on (although mine certainly aren't as STYLIN as yours!) and then kick them off at some point during the night. I do that too, with the electric mattress pad - when I get into bed it's nice and toasty, but at some point during the night I turn that sucker off because it's way too hot (and I always use the lowest level, lol). Would it be a surprise if I said the zippers were my favourite of all the pics? LOL!

  15. that was a good idea to take wool from the centre. Stops having two socks of different lengths and all that ripping back. (guess what, happened to me). I actually found it easier to knit socks on 5 needles. Now have the urge to knit another pair.

  16. ps when I used to knit a lot, I used to knit sleeves at the same time on the same needles

  18. I love your socks and that looks like a great pattern using just two needles. I've always knitted socks and gloves on four (never five!) needles, but I do knit with both ends of a ball of wool when making sleeves, just to make sure they end up the same length!
