Colors

That is certainly a yellow overload. I don't work with yellow too often. I'm trying to find some shades that wouldn't hurt my eyes, lol. Where is my dislike of yellow coming from? I remember one jumper which was really pretty it was brown at the bottom and it got yellow at the top and hood. I looked so bad in it. It made my skin look even paler than usual and that's probably where it all started. Don't take me too serious but yes I'm having hard time to find my way toward yellow.

This project has something to do with my bright log cabins. I quilted it in anyhow style. I really like QAYG projects but making straight lines can be a bit boring. Orange on the other side is one of my fav colors.

This has iron on interfacing so no need for heavy quilting. Few straight lines will do the job and we are moving on to red.

I'm fine with red. I just don't use it that often as many fabrics just leak the color. This is not FMQ that is a stitch on my machine which I really like. I would like to quilt entire quilt with it one day.

And what is it that I'm making? Divided basket by Noodlehead. My lining with be all happy and bright.

I used some leftovers from my color wheel quilt. There is slight progress on it. I marked some lines to determine each color segment. I just need to baste it and get in the mood for some FMQ adrenalin.

Plus I have the binding ready for Summertime sadness quilt. It'll be grey.

I almost fully recovered from winter cold and I'm all over the place, lol.

  1. I have trouble working with yellow, too. I feel like there are a lot of great mustards and citrons, but not enough in-between. That being said, I love how you paired the yellows with the reds and oranges. Looks like a sunrise :)

  3. That basket is going to be super fun when it's finished! I'm glad you told us what it was because I was at a loss to figure out the missing corners. And I can't wait to see your finished color wheel quilt. I'm sure that the quilting will be awesome!

  6. Oh, that basket is amazing! I personally love yellow (working on finishing a nearly all yellow quilt), but I hear that from so many people. I've never really understood. If you're looking for a "nice" yellow though, I recommend a soft buttery yellow. From my own unofficial research, that's the most liked shade of yellow. :D

  8. Beautiful colors. Yellow is definitely tough to work with and often difficult to find in quilt shops. But it sure is cheery. I love all of your projects. The divided basket is very cool and I love your Summertime Sadness quilt is beautiful - I'm sure there is a reason for the name but hope it was a temporary sadness.

  9. Yellow has been my favorite color since I was a kid but it has to be used carefully -- I've hoarded yellow fabric for a long time -- it's hard to find when I want it, so I buy bits and pieces that I really like so when I want to use it I have the BEST assortment of yellow prints anywhere in the world!! (-:

  10. Funny! My husband and I were having this conversation just earlier today about how yellow is my favourite color but I have so very few things in yellow around me. It can definitely be very overwhelming. I also realized that yellow is my favourite color in the nature. Yellow flowers cheer me up and I love autumnal colors. So I understand your dilemma with yellow! LOL!! I am glad you are feeling better!

  11. Gorgeous work, as always!!
Yellow is a really bright color and draws a lot of attention, so it's not surprising you find it overwhelming. :) In nature you often find it in small doses (yellow flowers on a green field), or for only a short time (leaves turn yellow then red).
It looks gorgeous how you used, it with the orange and red!
