BQF - Color wheel

For my second entry to Blogger's quilt festival I pick Color wheel quilt. ROYGBIV category is usually my favorite of all the categories.

I just like color order. I wanted to make color wheel quilt for a while. I used this pattern but added my own twist. I wanted a bit vortex feeling to it.

The center is like gun barrel.

It is my FMQ practice piece. My first attempt still makes me smile. I have a long way ahead of me but this colorful piece helped me to overcome the fear of FMQ. Fear of failure. I hope my amateur quilting will encourage others to give a go.

I turned it into shelf cover. It is my reminder of "You can do it" attitude.

You can read more about the process here, here and here.

The size is 37" square. Quilted on Brother NV350.

  2. I love color wheel quilts to begin with, but I really like the vortex that you added to this one. I love the idea of using a quilt as a shelf cover too. I'm getting ready to move and am not sure what my new sewing room will look like; I'm going to pin the idea of a quilted shelf cover just in case I have some shelves to enclose. Great finish!

  10. This is awesome! I've always wanted to make a color wheel quilt, too! I haven't gotten to it yet, but I don't really have enough scraps to complete the whole color wheel just yet. I may try the NY Beauty color wheel style. Your quilting is perfect for this quilt! It adds to the vortex feel :) I also absolutely love the picture of your quilt in the field of flowers. LOVE. I've been inspired by your quilt photos and have already been scoping out "quilt picture" spots around our rural town. Maybe one day I'll actually finish a quilt so that it needs photographing!

  11. Love it! What a great idea to change the pattern and make it your own...and I like how you've hung it in your room as a positive reminder to be brave! I also like the picture at the end...is that a canola field? It looks like Alberta! (where I live) :-)

I completely understand your fear of FMQ. I am always afraid of ruining my quilts by quilting it. I really like how you quilted yours--it really adds so much.
